Tell your councilmember: Defend #ThePeoplesBillion. Vote No on the Developer Deal!

ULA is working.

As we approach the measure’s third anniversary, ULA is building affordable housing, providing renters with desperately needed relief, and creating good union jobs across Los Angeles.

So, why are Mayor Bass and the City Council trying to sabotage Measure ULA by giving a massive tax break to billionaires and developers?

On Friday, Councilmember Nithya Raman introduced a motion to place a measure on the June ballot that would slash ULA’s revenues and take money away from proven solutions just to line the pockets of billionaires and developers, breaking the hard-won promises of ULA.

This backroom deal is being put forward without the input of ULA’s Citizen Oversight Committee, made up of housing experts and voters like you, who make sure ULA money is spent on solutions that work and benefit our whole community—not just a few. It’s going to a vote without review by two different committees and no report on its economic impact. That’s anti-democratic, and a slap in the face to the voters who passed it.

This motion will be put to a vote on Tuesday. That means you don’t have much time to call your city councilmember and tell them to Stop the Developer Deal and defend #ThePeoplesBillion.

Call your city councilmember today. If you aren’t sure who your councilmember is, you can find out here.

TELL THEM: “I understand that the City Council is putting forward a ballot measure that would slash Measure ULA revenues and give the People’s Billion away to developers. Please vote NO on the Developer Deal.

Calling Councilmember Harris-Dawson? Add “Measure ULA helped more people avoid eviction in your district than in any other. Why would you support a measure to slash its revenues?”

You can also go to social media and tell Los Angeles to call their councilmembers and defend #ThePeoplesBillion today. And you are welcome to join us on the steps of City Hall tomorrow morning at 8:45 for a press conference, then come inside to testify against placing this measure on the ballot.

Since it passed in 2023, ULA has collected over a billion dollars. With that money, ULA has funded the construction of 795 affordable homes, hundreds of which are Angelenos like Phoebe’s permanent homes today. Over 10,000 renters have received direct financial assistance from ULA. ULA has reached 150,000 renters with information about eviction defense and legal assistance, assisting tens of thousands directly. And all of this has accelerated the creation of thousands of good union jobs.

Homelessness has finally begun to decline in LA over the last two years—the same two years that Measure ULA has been in effect. Together, we have proven that ULA is the best path to an affordable Los Angeles.

We’re just getting started. Thanks to ULA, Los Angeles’ largest ever affordable housing round is going to be released in 2026. A record-setting $387 million will build affordable housing across Los Angeles.

But this housing will only be built if we make sure the promise of ULA is kept. Protect ULA and defend a livable Los Angeles for all.

The motion introduced on Friday opens a back door to a backroom deal, offering tax breaks to developers and handouts to billionaires. Let’s slam the door shut!

Tell our leaders to Vote NO on the Developer Deal and defend #ThePeoplesBillion.

The Peoples’ Billion Makes Headlines

Last week, the People’s Billion became official and we celebrated at City Hall.

We brought renters, workers, organizers, advocates, and city officials together to celebrate all we have achieved and look forward to ULA’s bright future. And people noticed. We attracted news coverage from around the country as we cheered all that our coalition has done to build an affordable Los Angeles.

Let’s make sure we continue to build on all that we’ve achieved and defend #ThePeoplesBillion.
